We use an adapted version the UK Record Collector grading system, as follows:

MINT
We never apply this grade to used records, although you can assume that, unless stated, all new titles sold on this site are mint. In other words, the record itself is in brand new condition, with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in brand new condition or as received from the supplier.

MINT MINUS (M-)
The record is in brand new condition, with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items are virtually flawless. Perhaps just some very light surface scuffs from storage.

EXCELLENT PLUS (EX+)
Virtually M-, although the record has a few extremely minor surface marks.

EXCELLENT (EX)
The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging may have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD PLUS (VG+)
The record shows signs of moderate play, with perhaps some slight lessening of sound quality. Possibly some normal wear and tear on the cover and/or extra items, without any major defects.

VERY GOOD (VG)
The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Very likely to have sustained some normal wear and tear on the cover and/or extra items, without any major defects.

GOOD
The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration etc.

FAIR / POOR / BAD
We don’t sell records in less than Good condition.

A NOTE ON JAMAICAN PRESSINGS
JA vinyl is often poorly manufactured, and this includes present-day pressings. So we grade as if the record is second hand, even if it’s brand new.
